Pimpa is an iconic figure in Italian children’s literature, born from the imagination of the famous cartoonist Altan. Among her many adventures, she stars in the illustrated book published in Portuguese as Pimpa viaja para a Itália, now the focus of an immersive exhibition at Casa Fiat de Cultura in Belo Horizonte, open until August 18, 2024.

The exhibition is promoted by Casa Fiat de Cultura, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Consulate General of Italy in Belo Horizonte, and the Brazilian Ministry of Culture. It is inspired by the illustrated book Pimpa viaggia in Italia, where the red-spotted dog takes readers on an adventure to discover the beauty and culture of Italy.

The book, published by Franco Cosimo Panini Editore, was commissioned by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and is distributed worldwide through the network of Italian embassies, consulates, and cultural institutes. The book, published by Franco Cosimo Panini Editore, began as a commission from the Italian Foreign Affairs Ministry, and is distributed worldwide through the network of Italian embassies, consulates and cultural institutes.

In this engaging and immersive exhibition, Pimpa leaps off the pages of the book to accompany young visitors on a fascinating journey to discover Italy and its most distinctive features, from food to historical figures, as well as design, nature, and much more.

Consul General Nicoletta Gomiero said, “Pimpa’s success in Italy is due to many factors. Altan was able to create a character who, surrounded by friends, gives voice to the needs and dreams of children, while at the same time inviting adults to reflect on the beauty of childhood innocence.”
