Gruppo Panini Cultura is pleased to announce the completion of the Sergio Staino Archive Digital Library, honoring the renowned Italian cartoonist who passed away in 2023. The announcement was made on the final day of Lucca Collezionando 2025. The project began one year ago, thanks to a crowdfunding campaign on the Eppela platform.
On March 23, during the event “Staino Archive: Un anno dopo” (One Year Later) the Digital Library was previewed. It will host Staino’s vast archive and will be accessible online starting in April 2025. The initiative was launched by Bruna, Ilaria, and Michele Staino — together with the Bobo e Dintorni Cultural Association and Sergio Staino’s friends — with the support of Eppela, Lucca Comics & Games, and the Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze Foundation.

The success of this ambitious project was the result of close collaboration among the companies of Gruppo Panini Cultura. Hyperborea managed archival operations using the Arianna4 suite, Mida Digit conducted the digitization process, and Haltadefinizione and Memooria oversaw data management and preservation through the Coosmo Digital Asset Management system.
The work involved cataloging, digitizing, and archiving more than 16,000 items, including loose leaf sheets, notebooks, original drawings, and notepads.
In recognition of its cultural significance, a press conference with the President of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani, will be held in early April in Florence to mark the official launch of the archive and acknowledge its historical and cultural value.
